What Is 0–10V Grow Light Control? Dimming, Schedules and Daisy Chains
Share
Short answer: a 0–10V grow-light controller sends a low-voltage control signal that tells compatible LED drivers how bright to run. It can schedule on/off times, automate dimming and create sunrise or sunset ramps without switching the high-power lighting load through a basic plug timer. Compatibility still has to be confirmed at the fixture and connector level.
Skyline’s LUMii XLED Controller is a one-channel controller for compatible 0–10V fixtures. It uses RJ12-style control connectivity or push-in terminals and is listed for up to 25 compatible LUMii XLED fixtures.

What “0–10V control” actually means
The lighting driver still receives normal mains power. A separate low-voltage line carries the control instruction: near the low end means dimmer output and near 10V means higher output, subject to the driver’s design. The controller is not supplying the fixture’s operating power through the RJ12 cable.
- Power circuit: supplies mains electricity to the LED driver.
- Control circuit: carries the 0–10V brightness instruction.
- Controller: creates the schedule, dimming level and ramp behaviour.
This separation is why a controller can coordinate several fixtures without carrying their full electrical load. It also means an RJ12-looking socket is not proof of universal compatibility; wiring and protocol must match.

How daisy chaining controls several lights
In a compatible daisy chain, one control cable runs from the controller to the first fixture, then onward through the remaining fixtures. All lights on the LUMii controller’s single channel follow the same schedule and dimming command.
The LUMii XLEDv6 680W LED Fixture lists manual dimming, RJ12 ports, external 0–10V control and daisy-chain support. The current LUMii XLED 720W V1 listing also includes RJ12 control connectivity, but buyers should confirm the controller/manual pairing for the exact fixture revision before connecting it.
- Confirm every driver explicitly supports 0–10V external control.
- Check the required connector and pinout in both manuals.
- Keep the controller channel limit and maximum fixture count within specification.
- Use the supplied or approved control cables.
- Test one fixture before building the full chain.

What schedules, dimming and ramps are for
Photoperiod scheduling
The controller can switch the commanded light state at consistent times each day. A controller schedule replaces manual visits, but it does not replace planning an appropriate photoperiod for the legal crop.
Output dimming
Variable control can reduce light output without changing fixture height. The LUMii controller is listed for 0–100% control, whereas the XLEDv6 fixture’s manual dial uses fixed steps.
Sunrise and sunset ramps
A ramp changes brightness gradually at the beginning or end of the programmed light period. This reduces the abrupt jump of instant full output. It should be treated as a control preference, not a substitute for measuring the light delivered to the canopy.

Installation and compatibility checklist
- Dry location: the LUMii controller is IP20, so keep it away from spray, condensation and reservoirs.
- Signal match: verify 0–10V support; do not connect a 1–10V, PWM, proprietary or network port unless the manuals explicitly allow it.
- Connector match: RJ12 describes the plug shape, not necessarily the pinout.
- One channel: all fixtures on this controller receive the same command.
- Cable management: keep control leads tidy, undamaged and separated from wet areas.
- Power safety: isolate power before installation and use a qualified electrician where fixed wiring is required.

Frequently asked questions
Can this controller run any LED grow light?
No. The driver must accept the correct 0–10V control signal and compatible wiring. Confirm the exact model documentation.
Does the RJ12 cable power the light?
No. It carries the low-voltage control signal. The LED driver still requires its normal mains supply.
Can different fixtures use different settings on one channel?
No. A single control channel sends one command to the linked group.
Is dimming the same as measuring plant light?
No. A percentage setting describes controller output, not the exact PPFD at the canopy. Fixture height, distribution and room geometry still matter.
This is general indoor-horticulture information. Follow the controller and fixture manuals, keep electrical equipment dry and use professional installation where required.
