Skyline Seed Bank Germination Policy
Skyline Seed Bank Germination Policy
Please be advised that seed germination should only be conducted in regions where it is legally permitted. We do not support or encourage germination in areas where it is restricted. While our seeds are sold for novelty and souvenir purposes, we provide germination information for those looking to cultivate responsibly and within legal boundaries.
We know how disappointing unsuccessful germination can be, and we're committed to helping you achieve the best possible results. In this guide, we'll explain why seeds sometimes fail to germinate, outline our policies on non-germination, and walk you through the steps to take if you run into issues.
Common Reasons Seeds Don't Germinate
Germination is a delicate process, even for seasoned growers. From seed vigour to shell composition, multiple factors affect each seed's ability to sprout. Here are some of the most common reasons seeds fail:
Incorrect Moisture Levels. One of the most frequent issues. Seeds left to soak too long can drown, while over-watering can stunt growth. An overly wet or dry medium is harmful to sprouting seeds.
Improper Temperatures. Ideal germination temperatures sit between 20°C and 25°C. Excess heat can halt germination, while cold can encourage fungal growth. Consistency within this range is key.
Aging or Poorly Stored Seeds. Older or improperly stored seeds often show reduced germination. At Skyline Seed Bank, we prioritise fresh stock, storing seeds in dark, sealed containers under refrigeration for maximum viability.

Our Commitment to Improving Germination Rates
Skyline Seed Bank has proudly served thousands of customers with high germination success rates. We follow strict practices to protect seed quality:
- Fresh Stock: We hold limited quantities and order fresh stock to keep turnover high.
- Critical Storage: All seeds are stored in optimal conditions to preserve viability.
- Discounted Aged Stock: Older seeds are sold at reduced prices to encourage timely use.
Despite these efforts, seed viability can vary depending on how seeds were handled by the breeder before reaching us. This is why we work only with trusted genetics and reputable breeders.
What to Do if Your Seeds Don't Germinate
If your Skyline Seed Bank seeds didn't germinate, we're here to help — within the guidelines below. How we assist depends on whether the seeds are our own house genetics or sourced from a third-party breeder.
Claim Requirements (All Seeds)
Our policy is valid for 30 days from date of purchase. To be considered, every claim must meet these conditions:
- Our recommended germination method must have been followed in full. Germinating by alternative methods — including placing seeds directly into soil or growing media — falls outside our policy, as these carry a higher risk of failure.
- You must supply a documented germination method: images and/or video showing how you germinated, along with a written description of your process.

Skyline Seeds Genetics (House Genetics)
For our own Skyline Seeds Genetics, up to 50% of non-germinating seeds may be replaced directly by us where a seed or batch issue is established. This guarantee is unchanged.
Third-Party Breeders (South African & International Stock)
We no longer have local access to replacement stock for third-party genetics and therefore cannot offer direct replacements on these lines. What we can do is act on your behalf:
Where a claim meets all the requirements above, we will assess it first and, if we consider it valid, submit it to the relevant breeder or supplier on your behalf and advocate for a resolution.
Please note:
- We reserve the right to assess and decline claims before submitting them to a breeder.
- Submitting a claim does not guarantee a replacement. The final decision rests entirely with the breeder or supplier, as does any decision on replacement shipping costs.
- Outcomes and turnaround times vary between breeders and are outside our control.
We review every case individually and will always be upfront with you about what's realistic.
